Some prankster replaced the plastic bushings with delicious, coarsely ground sea salt. The other one was nearly as bad, but was somehow hanging on with 1 (out of 3) intact.

That’s a horrible joke to play on someone!

Of all the places to put salt...

Feeling salty?

Well, that’s when you know you have a problem. I just hope the PO got the help they need.

Oooh.. Seen that one on a friends firebird a while back. Fixed it by filling the whole thing with two-part epoxy, worked for years (actually outlasted the car).

It’s actually not as bad as it looks. A new set of bushings is about $5 and mine should be here tomorrow

Very cool, we couldn’t find any back then. Well, there was one guy making them from copper or something but they were too expensive. The epoxy would probably cost more than $5!

This guy sells excellent better than OEM replacement parts for headlight motors:

Don’t let the name fool you. He’s legit. I have some of the headlight motor parts waiting to go into the Fiero, and I’ve used some of his other stuff in the Engine swap.

I might upgrade to metal gears eventually, but for now the plastic gears are still in good shape. I ordered some bushings off a guy on ebay who makes them himself so hopefully the quality will be a bit better than OEM

The power window motors in my Grand Marquis have a nearly identical mechanism. Replace those plastic wheels with 3 ball bearings of the right size and load it with grease. It should outlast the motor if not the life of the car.

Didn’t think of that, I got the new ones today and they work beautifully though!
